How to watch James Bond: the short version

The James Bond series is 25 films made by Eon Productions between Dr. No (1962) and No Time to Die (2021), plus two films made outside Eon that happen to star 007: the 1967 spoof Casino Royale and Sean Connery's 1983 comeback Never Say Never Again. Six actors have played Bond in the Eon films: Sean Connery (six films), George Lazenby (one), Roger Moore (seven), Timothy Dalton (two), Pierce Brosnan (four) and Daniel Craig (five). Dates on this page are UK release dates, because Bond films premiere in London and usually open in Britain before anywhere else.

There is no chronological order to worry about. For the first twenty films, each adventure is self-contained: Bond does not age, M and Moneypenny change actors without comment, and the series never tries to reconcile a Connery film with a Moore one. The only running threads are small callbacks (Bond visiting his wife's grave in For Your Eyes Only, Felix Leiter's history with Bond in Licence to Kill). So release order is simply the order the films came out, and it doubles as the only sensible way to watch them all.

The exception is Daniel Craig's run. Casino Royale (2006) reboots the character as a newly promoted 00 agent and the five Craig films tell one continuous story: Quantum of Solace starts an hour after Casino Royale ends, Skyfall and Spectre build up Bond's past and the organisation behind the earlier villains, and No Time to Die closes the arc for good. Watch those five in order and do not start with Spectre or No Time to Die. If you only have a weekend, the Craig films are the best modern entry point; if you want classic Bond, start with Goldfinger (1964), which set the template every later film follows.

Time commitment: the 25 Eon films run 3,208 minutes, which is 53 hours 28 minutes, or two films a week for three months. The Craig arc alone is 11 hours 44 minutes. The two non-Eon films add another 4 hours 25 minutes and can be skipped without missing anything: Casino Royale (1967) is a psychedelic comedy with David Niven and Never Say Never Again is a remake of Thunderball. The Craig-only order below is the one shortcut that gives you a complete story.

Orders explained

Release order

The order the films came out in the UK, from Dr. No (1962) to No Time to Die (2021). Because the first twenty films are standalone adventures, this is also the only order you need: there is no separate chronological timeline, except within the Daniel Craig films, which are already in story order here.

Optional extras

Non-Eon films

Casino Royale (1967) and Never Say Never Again (1983) were made outside Eon Productions and are not counted among the 25 official Bond films. Include them only if you want to see every theatrical Bond; neither connects to any Eon film.

Frequently asked

What order should I watch the James Bond movies in?

Release order. The 25 Eon films run from Dr. No (1962) to No Time to Die (2021) and, apart from the Daniel Craig era, each film stands alone, so release order is the natural way to see how the series evolves. If you only want one coherent story, watch the five Craig films in order: Casino Royale, Quantum of Solace, Skyfall, Spectre, No Time to Die.

Do the Bond movies connect to each other?

Mostly no. From 1962 to 2002 the films share characters (M, Q, Moneypenny, Felix Leiter, Blofeld) but not a timeline: Bond never ages and recasts are never explained. The Daniel Craig films (2006โ€“2021) are the exception and tell one continuous story, with Quantum of Solace picking up within an hour of Casino Royale's ending.

Is there a chronological order for James Bond?

Not a meaningful one. Eon has never placed the pre-2006 films on a timeline, and trying to build one breaks immediately (Bond is a Cold War veteran in the 1960s and still active in 2002). Treat the Connery-to-Brosnan films as 20 separate missions and the Craig films as a separate, self-contained continuity.

How long does it take to watch all 25 James Bond movies?

The 25 Eon films total 3,208 minutes, which is 53 hours 28 minutes. The shortest is Quantum of Solace at 106 minutes and the longest is No Time to Die at 163 minutes. Adding the two non-Eon films (Casino Royale 1967 and Never Say Never Again) brings the total to 57 hours 53 minutes.

Who is the next James Bond?

Nobody has been officially cast as of 24 October 2026. Amazon MGM Studios took creative control of the series in February 2025, hired Amy Pascal and David Heyman as producers (March 2025), Denis Villeneuve as director (June 2025) and Steven Knight as writer (July 2025). Final screen tests were reported in October 2026 and producer Amy Pascal has said an announcement is expected by the end of 2026, but no actor, title or release date has been confirmed, so Bond 26 is not listed here yet. Trade reports point to a 2028 release.

Why are Casino Royale (1967) and Never Say Never Again not in the main list?

They were made by other producers. Charles K. Feldman owned the rights to the first novel and made Casino Royale (1967) as a comedy with David Niven after a co-production with Eon fell through. Kevin McClory held the film rights to Thunderball from a legal dispute with Fleming, and used them to remake it as Never Say Never Again (1983) with Sean Connery. Neither film connects to the Eon series, so they are an optional collection here.

Is Casino Royale (2006) a reboot?

Yes. It restarts the character from his promotion to 00 status and ignores the previous twenty films, which is why Judi Dench's M is the only cast member carried over from the Brosnan era. Everything from Casino Royale to No Time to Die is one continuity, separate from what came before.

Which James Bond film should I start with?

For classic Bond, Goldfinger (1964): it is the film that fixed the formula and it needs no setup. For modern Bond, Casino Royale (2006), the start of the Craig arc. Dr. No works too if you want to see the series from the beginning, but it is a slower, smaller film than its successors.

Where can I stream the James Bond movies in the UK?

Availability changes. Amazon owns MGM, and Prime Video UK has carried the full Eon collection for stretches since April 2022 but with limited windows, and individual films come and go. Check Prime Video first; all 25 are also available to rent or buy digitally. The two non-Eon films are distributed separately (Sony for Casino Royale 1967, MGM for Never Say Never Again).
